Offline Gmail for iPhone Demoed
Although Apple is not attending the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the iPhone seems to be churning out lots of news and upcoming features. With the iPhone being such a great platform, developers were there showing off their up and coming apps. One exciting feature was the demo of Google’s version of e offline Gmail for mobile devices.
Google labs presented Offline Gmail by putting the iPhone in airplane mode and then launching a home screen web app to reveal the email inbox. This mobile version will allow Gmail users continue to browse and edit email on their iphone when offline by using the App Cache feature included in the new HTML5 standards. This is very helpful if you need to reply to emails when in an airplane or somewhere without service. Upon gaining service the emails can then be sent or saved to a folder or inbox. The service also sports a floating toolbar allowing the user quick inputs and selection options.
