How-To: Passcode Lock Your iPhone

We know you all have important information stored on your iPhone. Whether your phone is misplaced, stolen, or snoopers are trying to read your files while you’re away, you’ll want to have your private information protected. We’re here to show you how to set a passcode lock after the break.

Beginning my tapping the Settings icon from the homescreen. Continue into the General tab.

Once inside the general tab, you’ll see passcode lock item, which is currently set to off.

Tap passcode lock and you will now be presented prompted to enter a four digit passcode

After entering the four digit code you’ll be presented with three options

  • Require Passcode: Allows you to set a time period for which the lock will come on.  If you don’t like putting the passocde in everytime, you can set it to 15 minutes or more, if you’d still like protection.
  • Show SMS Preview: Shows incoming text message contacts on your home screen.  Turning this off will only display ‘New Text Message’ on the homescreen along with the sender. This option is on by default.
  • Erase Data: After 10 failed passcode attempts the phone will erase all data. A very extreme option, but if you have really important data on your phone, this item may be viable.

You have no successfully set a passcode lock on your phone.  Follow the directions again, if you’d like to make changes in the future.
