AT&T Upgrading 3G Network To Support 7.2 Mbps

att logoAT&T’s Vice President, Scott McElroy confirms that the US provider is undergoing various upgrades resulting in an increase of data speeds up to two times it’s current capacity. The plan is to upgrade the HSPA network speeds and eventually venture in to HSPA+. The speed increase will upgrade the downlink capacity on it’s high-speed packet access (HSPA) from 3.6 megabits per second to 7.2 mb/s through software upgrades at each base station.  The next generation iPhone is rumored to feature hardware able to support these speeds, giving the handset full advantage of these network upgrades.

AT&T could technically upgrade their network to 14.4 mb/s, however will be skipping that option at the moment due to technical problems and a stronger focus on upgrading the network’s backbone. Simultaneous upgrades to the network’s backbone are being performed in order to handle the increased traffic resulting from its network upgrades. The next generation coupled with these upgrades is going to be blazing fast! Technology just keeps getting better and better.

Next-Gen iPhone to Have a 3.2mp Camera, 5mp Rumors

iPhone Camera Icon

Digitimes is reporting, along with previous speculations, that the next generation will sport a 3.2mp camera.  Omnivision has signed a contract and received an order from Appple to begin production of 3.2 megapixel CMOS image censors. This updated camera will most likely find it’s way into the new 2,1 hardware to be released at WWDC this year.

A 5mp camera is also rumored to be on it’s way into another Apple product this year.  No word on whether it’s for built-in iSights, tablets, or even the iPhone 3,1 hardware update? We can only hope it’s the latter, but the rumors have just begun!

June to Bring a New iPhone?

att logo
BGR is claiming some inside information regarding hardware revisions of the iPhone. The release is set for June, a common month for iPhone releases, but the exact date is still unknown at this time. It also appears to include many features that have been discussed over the past few months and new easter eggs found in iPhone 3.0. The main focus being speed, there will likely be support for high-speed HSDPA (7.2 mbps) which may also play into the new multi-core rumors as well. A U-Verse application is also said to be included, allowing universal access with your home entertainment system. Apparently, AT&T is working with Apple to create a ‘Unified’ product that will allow the device to play nicely with AT&T services, but it is still unclear.

With this ‘annual tradition’ of iPhone releases in June, we’re expecting some great releases. Along with the iPhone 3.0 OS and update hardware releases, the iPhone community is in for a treat as Apple continues to hold the torch.
