The much anticipated Push Notification service is now available for Developers to begin testing.
Start testing your applications using the Apple Push Notification service today. Log in to the iPhone Dev Center and review the Apple Push Notification Programming Guide and Getting Started video. Team Agents can log in to the iPhone Developer Program Portal and proceed to the App ID section to create the components necessary to enable and test applications using the Apple Push Notification service.
Now is the waiting game for application to implement the push service. Of course, we do have until June until the 3.0 OS is released to the public. Which applications would you like to see incorporate push notifications?

Along with the 11 page app limit included with the 2nd beta of 3.0 OS, the update brought a new system setting menu called ‘Store’. To access this new item, click on Settings through the home screen and the menu link will appear just below the Photos item. A blank screen with the words ‘Store’ appear upon clicking the new menu option.
It’s a still a mystery on what Apple is planning to include within this setting, but we have our suspicions that it may involve settings for connecting to the new in app store APIs. If you’ve had time to experiment or have any observations, drop a comment and let us know what you think.

BGR is claiming some inside information regarding hardware revisions of the iPhone. The release is set for June, a common month for iPhone releases, but the exact date is still unknown at this time. It also appears to include many features that have been discussed over the past few months and new easter eggs found in iPhone 3.0. The main focus being speed, there will likely be support for high-speed HSDPA (7.2 mbps) which may also play into the new multi-core rumors as well. A U-Verse application is also said to be included, allowing universal access with your home entertainment system. Apparently, AT&T is working with Apple to create a ‘Unified’ product that will allow the device to play nicely with AT&T services, but it is still unclear.
With this ‘annual tradition’ of iPhone releases in June, we’re expecting some great releases. Along with the iPhone 3.0 OS and update hardware releases, the iPhone community is in for a treat as Apple continues to hold the torch.

If we haven’t had enough easter egg finds and rumors regarding the iPhone 3.0, you can now check video recording and a higher megapixel camera off the to-do list. We discussed the findings of the supposed Video Upload via MobileMe which led us to believe that the next gen iPhone would include video recording.
These new findings, by AppleInsider, claim that the next generation iphone hardware will include video recording as well as a higher megapixel camera. If that isn’t enough they are also rumoring that Apple will install a movie editing application, which will be similar to the memo recording app released with iPhone 3.0 OS. Incorporating video recording and a higher megapixel camera will definitely poke heads in the consumer market as the iPhone capabilities have been following behind other handsets.
So we possibly have a new (or two) iPhone’s this summer, video publishing along with video uploading, higher quality cameras, and OLED screens. This iPhone is looking better and better.

It appears that another iPhone 3.0 easter egg has been found - this time involving video uploading! Go to photos, choose a photo, click on the action button and select send to mobileme (only for 3.0 users). Interestingly enough, the usual dialog appears however it now says “Publish Video”. Perhaps a typo or Apple’s sign of trickery, or even a sign of video recording to come with the final release of 3.0 or even the new iPhone this summer.
Video recording is a main feature that was not discussed during this past week’s iPhone 3.0 event, but it a feature widely wanted. Almost every mobile handset on the market today has the ability to record video, why shouldn’t the iPhone include it? There are even multiple jailbreak apps that enable video recording and saving movies to the device. Could Apple be waiting until the release of a new iPhone and supporting architecture this summer?

One option that I always had hoped Apple to improve was the home. There are quite a few combinations you could do with the home button, consecutive clicks, holding down, etc to perform an action. With the iPhone 3.0 software Apple adds two new options for the home button:
These options are located in Settings > General > Home button and expand on the previous 2.o options of Home, Phone favorites, and iPod. If you use the iPhone camera or love to capture quick moments this will be a great solution for you, and of course if you’re used to searching your OS X computer with the quick keyword (cmd + spacebar) you’ll feel right at home with iPhone 3.0.
