Apple always said that they were not going to leave a price umbrella for the competition, but did anyone think the 2008 iPhone 3G price would be reduced to $99? During the Keynote, as the iPhone 3G S prices were laid out, they also announced that the current iPhone 3G 8GB will now be on sale for $99.
If a customer can walk in pay $99 (as well as other plans, agreements, taxes etc), and walk out with a still highly functional handset, this a a great deal. There’s no word on how long this pricing will last, but if you’ve been hesitant about spending $199/$299 on a new iPhone, we recommend jumping on this deal now.

Not only is Apple selling contract-free iPhones, now it appears they are offering early upgrade on the Apple handset at subsidized pricing. Ordinarily, AT&T would only allow such a upgrade with the subsidized pricing after the 24 month contract plan is over. This offer began next week and is being extended to customers on a case-by-case basis.
Apple Insider is reporting that AT&T representatives have confirmed that the company is waiving the upgrade clause for customers approximately 14 months into their two-year contract. The terms seem to be pretty lenient, as retail employees are free to grant upgrades at subsidized pricing for users who aren’t quite done with their contract. Accessing and reviewing the account holders information and reviewing history with AT&T also comes into play. If you’ve been a long and loyal customers you should be golden.
Has anyone received an upgrade before you’re two-year contract was up? Lets us know!

Weeks ago, we made a post discussing the rumor that Apple has been planning a China release of the iPhone with the Carrier China Unicom. This deal was to bring the iPhone 3G to China, however there was no indication that this deal was close to completed.
According to Reuters, China Unicom’s chairman Chang Xiaobing, confirmed they were in talks with Apple. ”We are in talks with many handset suppliers, including Apple,” he said.
Apple originally came to China Mobile in hopes of launching the iPhone 3G with their service, however it never panned through. Their chairman, Wang Jianzhou states they have had multiple negotiations with Apple, but declines on any comments or discussion about the issue.
While China Mobile holds the most subscribers in China, if China Unicom does take this deal the iPhone 3G will be available to over 1.3 million customers.
